Some of our projects:
SPRING PLANT SALE 2021
The Spring Plant Sale was a success!  A big thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers...
HERITAGE PARK NATIVE SHRUB PROJECT
Our Chapter received funding to install a native shrub project in Heritage Park along the river in Shawano.  Our volunteers worked hard removing all of the grass and weeds,  rototilling the area and incorporating good soil, and mulching/watering the entire bed. We still need to add signage and more native perennials, but it’s looking good so far!

There’s a great variety of native shrubs in this planting that will provide spring flowers for pollinators, summer berries for the birds, and nice fall color. Be sure to check out this area when you come to Rhubarb Fest at Heritage Park in June and throughout the seasons!
A big thank you to Cellcom and Shadows on the Wolf for sponsoring this project.

ABOUT WILD ONES

WILD ONES is a national non-profit organization that promotes environmentally sound landscaping practices to preserve biodiversity through the preservation, restoration and establishment of native plant communities.

Lorrie Otto was the founder of the Natural Landscaping movement and the founding inspiration for the Wild Ones.
"When I removed my grass and planted native plants, some neighbors were skeptical, but most of them came to love it.  In fact, some of them loved the yard so much that they're interested in buying it now.  If we care about the Earth we could heal it by removing lawns, by finding alternatives to lawns.  You can do wonderful things on your own property to protect the environment.  Each little island, each corridor will help bring back the butterflies and birds."

Wild Ones continues to lead the natural landscaping movement as we explore, teach, and change the practice of gardening in our communities and around the country to using native plants.
